ABSTRACT

In this paper we present the several criteria – demo-graphic factors, comorbid illnesses, physical examination findings, laboratory findings and social and psychic characteristics – with importance in the decision to hospitalize a patient with community-acquired pneumonia.

Different conditions associated with severe community-acquired pneumonia, and their relation with admission to the intensive care units are also presented.
