ABSTRACT

Inflammation is a very important component of bronchial asthma and, during the last decades, several cells and mediators have been implicated in its pathogenesis.

In this paper, the role of these protagonists on the inflammatory process is reviewed with an emphasis on the role of leukotriens perpetuating inflammation. Leukotrien antagonists and their role on the modulation of airway inflammation are briefly commented.
