Realizou-se uma prova de esforço progressiva máxima (EOS Sprint Jaeger), em cicloergómetro, com carga inicial de 1 Watt/ Kg de peso e incrementos todos os dois minutos. Os lactatos foram determinados pelo método enzimático. A determinação do ATV foi efectuada por 2 observadores independentes. Estudámos para o efeito 23 nadadores de alta competição portugueses, submetidos a uma média de treino semanal de 15<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>h (mínimo 14 e máximo de 22<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>h). Destes, 16 eram do sexo masculino e 7 do feminino; tinham idades médias de 15.8 anos<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>±<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>2.5 (mínima 13 e máxima de 24 anos).
